Top Five Zoos In Australia



Number One - Taronga Zoo 

Located in Sydney, Taronga Zoo has a great selection of animals all housed in large natural enclosures. The zoo also has some of the best views of Sydney Harbour, from many different vantage points, including the cable car.

Number Two - Melbourne Zoo 

Located close to the centre of Melbourne, Melbourne Zoo is easily accessible via Tram. Australia's oldest zoo has earned international fame for the work it has done to protect many species from around the world.

Number Three - Werribee Open Range Zoo

Just outside of Melbourne, Werribee Open Range Zoo has a fantastic safari showcasing zebras , giraffes and rhinos amongst other animals. The theming at this zoo is awesome and will transport you to the centre of Africa.

Number Four - Perth Zoo

Just a short ferry ride over the Swan River from the city, Perth Zoo is a small compact zoo with a good selection of animals from Asia, Africa and Australia in themed areas. The highlight at this zoo is the orangutan enclosure, arguably one of the best in the world.

Number Five - Australia Zoo 

Australia Zoo has come a long way from its humble beginnings as a reptile park. The zoo has expanded to include themed Africa and Asia sections, housing a good selection of animals. The highlight for this zoo however is still the daily crocodile show held at the "Crocosium". The show alone is well worth your entrance fee.

Best Oceanarium - Sea World

Sea World is the largest oceanarium in Australia. Located on the Gold Coast, the park has a good selection of marine animals housed in state of the art enclosures including polar bears and penguins. Daily dolphin and seal shows are not to be missed.

Best Wild Life Park - Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary.

Located on the Gold Coast - Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is home to a huge variety of Australian native animals. The park is large, so take advantage of the miniature train network to help you see all of the sites and entertaining shows.
